W3C announces Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0

December 12th, 2008

jigsaw WCAG 2.0 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines All together Now

W3C Web Standard Defines Accessibility for Next Generation Web
2008-12-11: Today W3C announced a new standard that will help Web designers and developers create sites that better meet the needs of users with disabilities and older users. Drawing on extensive experience and community feedback, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 improve upon W3C’s groundbreaking initial standard for accessible Web content, apply to more advanced technologies, and are more precisely testable. http://www.w3.org/

WCAG 2.0 succeeds Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 [WCAG10], which was published as a W3C Recommendation May 1999. Although it is possible to conform either to WCAG 1.0 or to WCAG 2.0 (or both), the W3C recommends that new and updated content use WCAG 2.0. The W3C also recommends that Web accessibility policies reference WCAG 2.0. http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/REC-WCAG20-20081211/

At Rayfields Accessibility and Breakofday.co.uk we will be advising clients accordingly about the new guidelines and looking at implementation and reviews for 2009.

November 26th, 2008

Shopping Bag with 15% VAT textThe UK rate of VAT is to change from the 1st December 2008.

“In his Pre-Budget Report on 24 November 2008 the Chancellor announced that the standard rate of VAT will be reduced to 15% on 1 December 2008. ”
Visit the HM Revenue and Customs website for more information : http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pbr2008/measure1.htm.

Do you run an online business?

If you run an online business you will need to check if you need to make changes to your website. Not only ecommerce and retail websites may need to be changed, but any website that states the rate of VAT, for example if in your terms of business you state that your services are charged with VAT you will need to ensure that this information is correct and kept up todate as the rates change.
